"The Bell Jar"
I knew this book was about a crazy girl and loony bins, but the first third of the book hardly foreshadows Esther's unfolding insanity. Really, it resembles your common "coming of age" novel. Of which, I am rarely fond.
However, I am always fond of crazy. What I am even more fond of? Self-aware crazy. Esther Greenwood knows she is teetering on a breezy ledge between normal and nuts, but revels in her observations of how others react to her. Because, really, isn't that the only way you can judge your sanity?
I say: READ IT.
